Nintendo announced their financial results for the year of 2002/2003. The net profit is 67.27 billion yen (~US$572.3 millions), decreased by 36.8% from last year. The decline is caused by the weak performance of GameCube worldwide. For the current financial year, Nintendo is expecting a net profit of 65 billion yen, not the previously predicted 95 billion yen.
Namco announced their results for the financial year of 2002/2003. The net profit has increased by 102.2% to from last year's 2.04 billion yen to 4.12 billion yen. Profit for each share is 3,695 yen. The operating profit has increased by 54.4% from 6.13 billion yen to 9.47 billion yen. For the current year, Namco expects to have a net profit of 5.8 billion yen and a 10,293 yen profit per share.
Sega has posted a 3 billion yen net profit for the 2002/2003 financial year, the first profit in the last 5 years. The console division has posted a loss of 8.5 billion yen, more than 50% of the game titles released last year did not reach the sales forecast, which makes the sales 34.5% lower than last year. However, Sega's arcade division has made up the loses with an operating profit of 18.8 billion yen.
Sega is planing to cut down the development subsidiaries from 10 to 4 or 5. About 10 - 20% of their 1000 development staff members will be dismissed. Sega's president Hideki Satou will be stepping down on June 27, and become the chairman. Hitmaker's president Hisao Oguchi will resume the president position afterward. For the 2003/2004 financial year, Sega is expecting a net profit of 7.5 billion yen. Sega will release more than 77 console games this year, but they expect 20% of the titles will not meet the sales forecast.
Namco announced they will reveal details of Xenosaga Episode 2 for PlayStation 2 in a press conference on July 21. Shion Uzuki will be the main character of the game once again. The story will center on the mysteries behind Jr. Albedo, Gaignun Kukai and Zohars, and the relationship between Jr. Albedo and Momo. In addition, the game systems will be greatly improved. Xenogear / Xenosaga Episode 1 producer Tetsuya Takahashi will be the producer of the game, direction and scenario scripts are responded by other members in the company.
Nintendo announced they will be selling the GameCube + GameBoy Player bundle "Enjoy Plus Pack" in Japan on June 21, for 19800 yen (which is the same price as the current GameCube system). The system will be available in four colors, include Indigo, Jet Black, Platinum and Spice Orange.
